Greeds

Greed can take more than one form. Most often we think of greed in terms of money but at times like this in the year where we party and we socialize and we travel and we buy, relentlessly, it is clear to me that the other forms of greed may be more real to us than the greed of money. We must say “Stop”. We must say, “It is enough.” Do we ever draw a line in the sand where we say, “My purchasing/running/socializing is enough?” The point where maybe it crosses over from being a healthy force in our lives to an unhealthy one? Are you feeling a small voice calling you to take a break and you think about it but that might mean some discomfort so you slip back into what “is” because it is a little easier than putting on the brakes & facing the drop in adrenaline & the stillness? But if you don’t you will face the pain of pushing your soul farther than is good and it won’t have time to regain it’s health.

Ok, call it! Declare these few days that you have before the new work week of the New Year, “holy ground” to be used for refueling. Slow things down. Say no to running, socializing, overeating & buying. Take time to “be”, to “breathe” to catch up from all the merriment. Pay the price of discomfort as your addicted flesh must “dry out” to gain the reward of a healthy soul. If you have children at home, declare it for all of you! No they won’t like it, to be sure; like a baby who cannot fathom how much they need a nap, but you will be giving them a great gift to lead them in this way.

Onward courageous family! Cut off the greeds whose voices are turning into cruel task masters
