Don't Run and Fill... Be Still!

“Be still and know that I am God.”

Does your heart feel ‘antsy’?  Are you feeling a sense of discomfort and you are thinking that you need to run and fill somehow?  Stop a minute before you do that and ask the Lord, “Am I feeling this way because you are drawing me to do something?  Or am I feeling this way because my flesh is tired or uncomfortable; or in our situation we are just adjusting to our new home, our new normal and trying to sink our teeth into what that means and it would be easier to distract ourselves by ‘running’ here or there or filling our lives with something to take away the discomfort.

Instead of doing that I am asking the Lord for contentment right here and His help to see what is right around me that he would have me put my hand to.  Then if I “go and do” a little later it’s not out of panic and discomfort, it’s out of satisfaction, contentment and a joy in life.  When I don’t have to “run and fill”, then when I do it is healthy.  Sometimes when you have those sensations, the best thing you can do is deny them to keep your flesh from becoming your tyrant.  If you feed it today, it’s just going to scream tomorrow.

Discomfort isn’t bad.  At times it is actually good and many times an indicator of the health of our souls.

So stop and pray first.  Be still and know that he is God.  Let ‘less’ be enough and you will discover that when you don’t ‘run and fill’ it turns into a deeper satisfaction of your soul and getting you on the right long-term path that God had in mind for you in the first place.
