Who Gives Birth to Whom?

Children are an amazing thing.  We give birth to them and they give birth to us.  A quarter of a century ago, our first child was born.  A young woman of 20 years old, only a year and a half into our marriage, clueless to finding fulfillment and the meaning of life.  Big dreams and ambitions swirling around inside of us.  No idea what it means to be a parent.

 

And they are born.  Your whole world changes.  You experience a love and a purpose beyond what you could have imagined.  Before the birth you may have had many high ambitions and afterwards they all fade in the distance behind the deeper reality of the fulfillment of raising a child.  Suddenly, keeping a house, making a dinner, going to work every day takes on a world of new meaning. 

 

A switch inside of you flips as you hold that baby in your arms.  At that moment, something inside you says, “I get it now.  It all makes sense.”
