"I Shall Not Want" Battle Cry
My eyes weren't even open yet when a mixture of emotions flooded me. Temptation to let myself spiral downward. Frustrations and "I wish" -es in unmet expectations from yesterday threatened to destroy the blessings of the precious day I had just lived!
Temptations to destroy the good don't stop in reflecting on days past. Next my mind turned to being overwhelmed by the future. Thinking about the upcoming week, the reality check of "Monday morning"; work to be done, challenges to meet, fatigue before I even got out of bed.
The Holy Spirit rescued me in that moment. Breath prayers from last week rose up in my spirit. Daily meditations on Ps 23:1a.. "The Lord is My Shepherd". The Spirit brought the next phrase, "I shall not want".
This was my spiritual battle, the fight of faith He was calling me to
Thinking about the "I wish"-es of the weekend. "I wish this could have happened. Or we didn't get to do that." I proclaimed the words .. "I shall not want"
To answer what is before me in this week ahead, yes, many challenges...
and yet, "I shall not want".
The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. To steal the joys of the past with discontent. To kill the good of the future with getting my eyes on any negative He can find. He wants to get me moaning and groaning, worrying and spewing instead of delighting, praising and thanking!
This is my fight of faith. I recognize and repent of the tendencies of my weak flesh. With the Spirit helping me, whispering the words of this Psalm as my sword of defense. I will not give in to the temptations. Instead, I speak out the truth, "I shall not want" .
Yesterday, today & tomorrow, even in what I consider their deficiencies, are profoundly blessed & PERFECT just the way they are. I reject the lies trying to kill, steal and destroy and I rejoice in the truth, "I shall not want".
Father, I breathe in all your blessings. Thank you that you fill my life with everything I could ever want or need. Truly, in my Good Shepherd's care "I have not & I shall not want" for anything.
